The German Neurosurgery Society was founded in 1950 with 1,300 members.

Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH), also referred to as Forestier's disease, was first described by Jacques Forestier and his student Jaume Rotes-Querol in 1950. 1).

In 1950, working in Johannesburg, South Africa, Krynauw reported on 12 patients with infantile hemiplegia who underwent hemispherectomy; seizure control was achieved in 10 of these patients, with improvement in function and behavior 2).

Intra-arterial (IA) delivery of chemotherapeutic agents for brain tumors was introduced as a therapeutic option as far back as 1950 by Klopp et al in animals 3) and 1952 by French et al in humans 4).
